Recruit to Train

There is a national target for the expansion of the children and young people’s mental health workforce that by 2020 there will be 1,700 new therapists in service. One of the national programmes developed to meet this target is Recruit to Train (RtT).

The RtT offer from HEE is to pay 100% salary and training contribution in respect of trainees who are appointed to new posts to provide evidence-based treatment for children and young people within children and young people’s mental health services. This has been paid at mid-point of Band 6 plus 25% on-costs for one year. The expectation is that local areas provide two-year contracts and commit to paying the RtT trainee’s salary for the second year once they are qualified.

The Midlands CYP IAPT Collaborative has provided two courses for RtT: CBT (at Derby University) and SFP (at Northampton University). The first cohort of trainees signed up in 2018 and you can read about their experiences in our Recruit to Train programme evaluation report. The next cohort of RtT trainees starts in January 2020.
