During 2022 the Midlands Young Advisors collectively wrote a chapter for a book on participation. The book – Participation in Children and Young People’s Mental Health – which is to be published by Routledge Taylor and Francis Group, aims to provide a comprehensive guide for people working within children and young people’s mental health.
The Midlands Young Advisors wrote the chapter on ‘involving children and young people in their own care’. This chapter looked at what involving Children and Young People in their own care actually looks like, the benefits and challenges of implementing this person-centred care, and some examples of tools that could be used to achieve this goal, before finishing with some recommendations and a conclusion.
As part of the recommendations section, our Young Advisors developed some graphics to demonstrate the key takeaway messages from the chapter, as well as including some quotes directly from young people themselves. You can see these graphics below:

The final version of the book is due to be published at the end of this year, and we cannot wait to see the final outcome. We had such a fantastic time collaborating on this chapter and would like to thank Leanne Walker and Hannah Sharp (editors) for this opportunity.
