What We Do

Here are just a few of the things our amazing Midlands Young Advisors can do:

The Let’s Get Mental! Conference

In 2019, our Young Advisors designed and delivered their own mental health conference, entitled Let’s Get Mental! and in 2020, they were back with Let’s Get Mental, Again!

Both events were a great success and featured some fascinating presentations and activities, including mindfulness workshops, therapy dogs and a Q+A with young people who had previously accessed mental health services.

Needless to say, people are already talking about 2021! There are no plans yet (watch this space?) but do keep an eye on the Young Advisors’ web page and Twitter feed for updates.

A Young Person’s Perspective: Education & Training

The Young Advisors are available to consult on a range of topics related to mental health and service delivery. All topics have been developed by us, using the expertise within the team and include:

  • Youth Participation
  • LGBTQ+
  • Being transgender
  • Peer support in CAMHS
  • Neurodiversity and reasonable adjustments
  • Black and Minority Ethnic (BAME) mental health
  • Education and mental health
  • Transitioning: CAMHS to AMHS
  • General wellbeing and self-care
  • Staff recruitment and selection (training for young people to recruit staff in services)

We can provide short talks (1 hour), half-day (3 hours) or full-day workshops. These are suitable for professionals working with children and young people; schools and young people; and the public.
