Research assistant

Associate Development Solutions is a small, independent organisation, providing a broad range of services in consulting, currently mainly focused on mental health, service development, leadership, and research. Our digital arm, ThinkingThrough… provides therapy and coaching, and we also will be developing, with young people, our social enterprise, Parlez! (currently the Midlands Young Advisors). We undertake research for work commissioned from us, and across our programmes.

Having worked with our team on our vision, and getting the right people with the right skills, we have recognised that to progress we need someone with research skills. Our focus over the next five years will be on growing our business, and that is where you come in, to help our staff to undertake research.

Your responsibilities

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and apply research and evaluation methodology within identified research projects and to work alongside the Research and Evaluation lead to deliver agreed outcomes and project activities
  • Prepare for data collection: scheduling interviews/focus groups, organizing the distribution of surveys, co-ordinating work schedules between staff and participants to facilitate data collection
  • Undertake data collection: conduct interviews, conduct focus groups, administer, and collect surveys
  • Undertake literature search for relevant studies
  • Type up interview notes/ collect transcribed interviews from the transcriber, organise and store them
  • Prepare data for analysis, this includes entering data into Excel/SPSS, cleaning the data
  • Undertake quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Assist with administration of research plans as necessary, ensuring that records and files are kept up to date

What we need from you

  • Relevant professional qualification and/or degree level qualification in a relevant field
  • Evidence of study at a post-graduate level
  • Data analysis training e.g., SPSS and/or qualitative analysis
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Some experience in social care, health or education in which children’s emotional well-being/mental health/behaviour or mental health for older age groups is a key element of the core business
  • Experience of consultation with Key stakeholders in the context of Health, Social Services, Education, or the Voluntary sector
  • Knowledge of working within ‘disadvantaged/ socially-excluded’ field and experience of promoting the inclusion of children and adolescents and/or vulnerable adults within one of the mainstream settings
  • Excellent IT skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Friendly and flexible
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to prioritise work
